Millennials and Online Training

Born between 1980 and the early 2000s, the eldest millennials are in the workplace now and by 2025 will make up 75 percent of the global workforce. If you are currently in the workforce, there’s a pretty good chance that you’ll be working with them. They could be your customer and may even be your competitor.

As the percentage of tech-savvy millennials rises in the work force, the reliance on online training tools should increase proportionately. However, there are numerous other serious advantages that online training brings to the workforce.

1. Available All Day Everyday

Throughout the day online training materials would be available to staff members. Making it possible for employees to learn at their own pace and in comfortable settings. It also allows for more flexibility in their approach to the training and gives them the freedom to learn in their own way.

2. Better Collaboration And Reach

With online training, it is possible to have instantaneous reach to staff and trainers from any part of the world. Besides enabling teams from various geographic locations to collaborate on solving challenges in real-time, these tools also bring with them other advantages like instant connectivity to subject matter experts; regardless of where they are located. It’s a win-win for the employer and the staff undergoing training.

3. Doesn’t cost the earth and saves you money

Although there are numerous benefits to face-to-face training such as networking and discussion, which I will go into another article here. As no infrastructure or travel is required the overhead costs are fairly low allowing providers to charge less. Making online training on average more cost effective. Finally, since all of this is in electronic format, paper consumption is significantly reduced. All of this brings about a significant reduction in costs.

4. Designed for Millennials

Finally, one of the less-talked about benefits of online training is how it is better suited to the millennial workforce. Today’s employees work not just for money, but also to continually learn and advance. As a result, with online training, development is always available to employee’s. Therefore, this gives them better access to the subjects they are interested in and does not necessarily have to be directly related to their work. Diversity in knowledge is a terrific human resource asset.
