The Myths

1. Cloud Migration is too complex

Microsoft is extremely thorough with their cloud migrations. The prospect of moving all of your important data off-site may be a daunting transition but it may end up being one of the best decisions for your business.

From information and tips on firewall configurations to reverse proxy requirements and migration possibilities with a phased approach, there are numerous pathways you can follow to migrate your data to the cloud Microsoft have created several paths you can follow.

2. Keeping data on-premises is safer

The evidence is becoming increasingly clear that on-premises systems aren’t inherently more secure than they’d be in the cloud. There are multiple different systems for hacking companies and being in the cloud does not make your business any less susceptible to attacks.

With large corporations like Microsoft they have entire teams dedicated to ensuring the highest level of security is upheld. This becomes increasingly important when smaller organisations do not have the resources to allocate to full-time data security.

3. There’s nothing private about the cloud

In addition to Office 365 providing strong data security. Another way Microsoft has ensured privacy is to make your IT team manage access. That is setting up rights and restrictions, and provide smartphone access. It’s also why your company remains the sole owner and you retain the rights, title and interest in the data stored. Microsoft on the other hand ensures strict controls and design elements that prevent the mingling of your data with that of other organisations. They also ensure that their data center does not have access to your data.

On top of that, Microsoft was the first major cloud provider to adopt a world first international standard for cloud privacy. This standard establishes a uniform, international approach to protecting privacy for personal data stored in the cloud. The international standard reinforces that the end user are in control of their data. That they are the are the only owners of their data.

4. It’s only online

There’s this idea that if you migrate your data to the cloud that it will become an only online program. Once you have a Office 365 account you can use apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneNote offline as well as online. Just store documents using OneDrive to get access, and the next time you connect to the internet. Any documents you’ve edited offline will be uploaded automatically. Easy.
